Make an ass out of you and me
Be very mindful of the assumptions you are making right now.
When you ASSUME means that you make an ass out of you and me.
Three common assumptions people are making right now, which have an impact on you and them:
1. I can manage my stress by going for a run every morning - ASSUMPTION! All of us have heightened stress levels at the moment, which means you need to find multiple ways to regulate your stress levels with different tools throughout your day. One run in the morning will not be enough to to maintain your mental health during these challenges. I have put together 8 effective tools to manage stress for you and to share with your team.
3. He is single, he has nothing to worry about but himself - ASSUMPTION! Don’t assume that because you are married with children, that he hasn’t got things going on. Perhaps he has a vulnerable aunt that he’s worried about, perhaps he hates being on his own, perhaps this emphasises how rubbish it is to be single. You don’t know.
3. Everyone likes working from home - ASSUMPTION! Some people don’t, they find it very isolating, they worry they aren’t doing enough, that people will forget them. Making this assumption means you might not ask the question ‘How are you getting on?’; you might not take the time to consider another’s viewpoint.
The key is to stay curious right now, ask open questions, try and see the world through the eyes of someone else. Watch those assumptions, they will bite you in the arse!
