Losing the external markers

For a long time, I fiercely defended my identity.

I kept the same business photo for years - back when my hair was blonder, and I could still wear a white shirt to work without worrying about spilling coffee or someone wiping jam on me.

I identified myself in conversation with others by what I did, what I was working in, where I had just travelled to on a business trip.

These external markers that somehow help us feel safe, and in control, and can also feel like a huge hindrance. Ironically reducing our creativity and freedom to grow and often preventing us from developing into more of our true selves.

Have you ever found yourself holding onto old definitions or labels, even when they no longer fit?

We all do it.

It’s comforting to have those markers, but they can also limit us.

There is a huge shift going on for people right now. We feel it in different ways, and as these external markers start to show themselves, if we allow some of their importance to fall away, we find ourselves.

It happens in stages, it’s about stripping away those layers to reveal who we really are underneath.

What would happen if you let go of some of the labels and roles you’ve always identified with?

What might you discover about yourself?

It’s about listening to our inner voices, being curious, and allowing ourselves to shine - without question.

What if you gave yourself permission to explore who you are beyond the title, the years of experience, or the places you’ve been? Who might you become?

Please share this with someone who needs to be reminded.
