Is it time to fire your boss?

I fired my boss because she kept telling me I wasn’t doing enough.

She didn’t notice when I put in the extra effort.

She didn’t make the time to congratulate me when I had done well.

She could be cold and aloof one minute, and too involved the next.

She distracted me with work thoughts when I was trying to read a bedtime story.

She made me believe work always required more.

I fired this boss.

I knew there was a better boss out there.

That boss was the old me.

I chose a new one.

This one knows my potential.

She knows when to push and when to be gentle.

She encourages the long-game approach to work and life.

She knows how cruelly I can sabotage myself, and how to get me back on track.

Most importantly, she knows I am enough without any of it. She encourages me to think about work differently, for much greater rewards than just money.

She encourages me to lighten up.

She knows I’m human and will need reminding!

My boss is me.

Whether you are the boss or not, we all need to get better at choosing what kind of boss we want to be to ourselves, and how to do it.

How’s it going with your boss? What would you like to be different? Are you being the best boss you can be towards yourself today?
