If I were an activist

If I were an activist I would stand up for the question.

The humble question that can be a gateway into another person’s worldview, their feelings, disappointments and dreams.

If I were an activist I would stand up for listening. The superpower we think is all about our ears, when really our whole body is in on the act.

If I were an activist I would stand up for curiosity, and the infinite possibility that it reveals.

And you?

If you were an activist what would you stand up for? Or maybe you already do.

To stand up for something means we first have to choose what it is we take a stand for. It is as unique as our fingerprint, or the sound of our voice. It pulls us to act. It is bigger than us and we can’t do it on our own.

I have been reflecting upon my stand, my commitment. In part that is why I haven’t written to you in a while. I’ve been taking time to reflect on what it means to be a woman and a leader, at this time in history. One where curiosity, listening and action are all needed.

We need to listen deeply to ourselves. It’s not always easy, it requires patience and sometimes the noise around us is so loud. Sometimes Netflix seems like a better thing to do! And then we remember that we are here at this time for a reason, a purpose bigger than ourselves, something to stand up for.

How can you create the conditions to listen deeply to yourself right now? To listen to what you stand for and where your attention is needed. To trust in what you hear yourself say.
