Do you remember time management courses?

Time or Energy?

Most people worry about managing their time. I hear how busy clients feel every day. Energy, on the other hand, doesn't get mentioned. Think about it now. How are you managing your energy currently?

Imagine your energy on a scale from 1 to 10. At a 10, you would be cartwheeling around the room. At a 1, well, I'm sure you can imagine!

Life asks a lot of us. One client, a great leader, described how it feels even more like there is just 'one of me and a lot of them'. Leading thirty people means a lot of people to acknowledge, people need continuous motivation and support. And somewhere on the list is you!

You may feel run down. The tank is empty. But that might not be entirely true.

You have more control over energy than you give yourself credit for. You can shift your energy and the energy of those around you.

Another client remembers how he was given a talking to by a former boss for his inability to see how he could bring down the energy in a room with his tone and mood. Not a happy memory but a lesson that has stuck.

We all influence our space with our energy.

Without energy, everything remains still. To encourage change and transformation, energy is required. And, as a leader, you need to be aware of your energy and that of those around you. Energy is felt, sometimes it’s very subtle, which can makes us question it, it’s there though.

How do you find the energy?

·       Look after yourself physically. Being active and eating healthy automatically provides you with energy.

·       Be present with the person you're working with. If you're already thinking about what you need to do next, you're using your energy for the wrong thing.

·       Stop multi-tasking. Research shows it has similar effects to working whilst drinking wine! You're not giving your full attention to anything, which puts undue stress on yourself and others.

Think about all those things you're doing that are draining your energy. You might feel like they save you time, but remember saving energy is probably more important.

Thankfully, my client now knows that he can help inspire and motivate himself and others. We spend a lot of time talking about not having enough time. Yet focusing on our energy, and being intentional with it, means we get more done with much less stress and attract positive people and circumstances.

We are all leaders, either by choice or default. Every interaction is an opportunity to lead and have a positive impact on others.

I'm Sally, and I work with great leaders. Leaders who are passionate about supporting others. Leaders who often feel over-stretched. I help them look at themselves and understand how to work with their energy and not against it. Want to find out more? Book a free call.
